The Future of the Republican Party is Dependent on One Thing: Money

Here is the bottom, bottom line on what’s happening in Washington D.C. right now. Set Trump aside for the moment. In many ways, Trump is being used by Congressional Republicans as a diversion from what is going on under the Capital Dome. The important work is being done in Congress, and that work involves helping rich Americans become richer.  Why? Ahh, here is the method to their madness.

The majority of Americans do not share the radically conservative ideology of today’s Republican party, and as time goes on, there will be fewer and fewer adherents going to the voting booths. Take the last election. Clinton won the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes. Republicans in positions of leadership can read the writing on the wall, and they understand they have only one option if their party is to survive into the future, and that is money. In today’s Wild West political environment, if Republicans have enough money, they can counteract the will of the majority of voters and remain a viable political force in America. Money is the key.

What better way to guarantee the influx of money to Republican politicians than by helping the wealthiest Americans grow their already grotesque bank accounts? Elites tend to be conservatives because they believe the current system helped them get where they are, so why try and change it? These are Donald Trump’s pals, and like Donald, they live in a cloistered world where the price of bread or a gallon of gas is as important to them as the current temperature on Venus.

While there may be cheering and applause in the penthouses of New York city and Moscow today, the elites of the western world will soon be gaping in horror watching Trump bring the house down on himself and those who stood with him. Why? Trump is an idiot. A moron. The delusional billionaire class equate their wealth with innate superior wisdom and knowledge, which will be their ultimate downfall, because they are really well-connected thugs, con-men with pedigrees, names that get you into clubs and international deals. Despite what they tell themselves, their riches have nothing to do with their inner worth. In fact, it’s the complete opposite.

I am not a psychic, but I can tell you with some certainty that, like the nursery rhyme, Humpty Dumpty will have a great fall. Trump’s lies will be his downfall, and all of those who celebrated him will soon be forced back into their shadowy crevices and passed over as history marches forward.

Trump is the Republican Party Stripped Naked

I find the hair pulling and garment rending by the Republican establishment over Donald Trump becoming their presidential candidate hilarious and totally disingenuous. You would guess from all of the wailing that Trump had somehow betrayed the Republican Party’s core values or insulted Ronald Reagan, but that’s not what’s going on here. Most of Trumps ideas and ideals are straight from the Republican playbook (“The Art of the Lie”) and probably differ little from Rubio or Kasich or McConnell. So why is Mr. Combover despised by so many in his own party?

Republicans are upset with Trump because he dared to break the golden rule of conservatives campaigning for office: Always talk in code. The Code is a laundry list of words and phrases used by Republicans to convey their true values to the faithful without coming across to the rest of us as obviously racist, homophobic, misogynistic or cruel. For instance, when a politician talks about those who have become dependent on welfare or “the takers” or welfare queens, they’re talking about African Americans. If they talk about people attacking America’s core values, waging war against Christmas or East Coast elites, they’re referring to liberals. And when they talk about almost any issue relating to women, the real message is “we must maintain America’s patriarchy at any cost.”

Trump, however, ain’t playing that game. He has thrown away the codebook and blurts out what every racist, misogynistic, homophobic American wants to hear in one and two syllable words. No more talking in code for Trump. He’s going to tell it like it is, and his fellow Republicans are outraged because their horrible, hateful values are now on full display in every Trump speech and interview.

Trump is the Republican Party naked, revealing every ugly blemish, every deformity, every open sore and it is a truly an ugly spectacle. Mainstream Republicans don’t hate Donald for what he says, but for how he says it, and in the end, it might be the one positive thing to come out of Trump’s run for the White House.

It’s the values, stupid

One of life’s great mysteries for me is trying to imagine what was going through the minds of voters in last November’s election when they pulled the lever or checked the box or poked the chad giving Republican’s control over both houses of Congress. They continuously rate Congress lower than anal cysts, but then turn around and vote for the very people who are responsible for government gridlock.

Thanks to Congressional Republicans, with some help from gutless Democrats, the latest spending bill that funds the government through the end of the fiscal year is packed with goodies for Wall Street and wealthy political donors, and of course, contains very little in the way of relief for the average citizen.

THIS IS WHAT YOU VOTED FOR! [Screams of frustration, the sounds of garments being rendered, head banging against wall] And there will be plenty more of these shenanigans over the next two years.

The only analysis that makes any sense to me is that values trump everything when it comes to elections. Red staters perceive that Republicans share their values, and that seems to be enough to earn a vote. Actions don’t play into the equation…or logic or common sense or even self-preservation. Add to this a corporate controlled media and I guess you have the recipe for conservative success. The reality that Republicans consistently side with the wealthy elites over the average voter doesn’t seem to be important.

In my opinion, the antidote is for Democrats to stop trying to be Republican light and start standing up for progressive values, which are values that can truly help struggling Americans. If progressives get their wish and Elizabeth Warren or Bernie Sanders decide to run for President in the 2016 election, it will be a very interesting and telling race regarding the future direction of the Democratic Party.
